Zhang Ziyi Wins Her 12th Best Actress Award

Mainland Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi bags her 12th Best Actress award for her role in the movie 'The Grandmaster' during the 14th Chinese Film Festival held in Beijing last October 11.

The 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' star has proved her prowess in acting once more, by taking home the Best Actress award at the awards ceremony last Saturday, breaking actress Zhou Xun's record of 10 awards with her role in the Chinese flick 'The Equation of Love and Death' in 2007.

Following the release of the film last year, Zhang was able to obtain several awards in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan.

The actress expressed her gladness while delivering her acceptance speech, saying, "I have received 12 awards. This number is a very special number for the Chinese - the 12 zodiacs, 12 months in a year. This award is an end as well as a start for me!"

After the awards night, the actress also posted a message on her Weibo account, saying that her 12th Best Actress award represents the cycle of between herself and her roles in the films she has done through the years.

"Its end is a new start," wrote the actress.

In her post, she also acknowledged director Wong Kar Wai and Tony Leung. She expressed her gratitude towards the viewers and fans for their support.

The actress expressed her excitement for the next 'cycle', saying that she will work harder in the future. "To all who love me, I love you," she said.

On the other hand, Hong Kong actor Nick Cheung was the one who won the Best Actor award for his role in 'Unbeatable', while Johnnie To was able to nab the awards for best Film and Best Director for his movie 'Drug War'.

Lastly, the movie 'Ilo Ilo' also scored an award at the ceremony, bagging the award for Best Screenplay and gaining at least six nominations on par with 'The Grandmaster'.
