However, now at the midpoint of the season, the odds have improved to 13-to-2, according to the betting website.

The Spartans recently had a 45-31 win against the Purdue boilermakers. This game cemented their number eight position in the FWAA-NFF Grantland Rice Super 16 poll released last Monday.

Mark Dantonio, Michigan State's head coach, is now on his eighth year as the program's head coach. According to mlive, he has gradually built up the Spartan's team, reaching its national power status it has today.

With a record of 69-30 at MSU and even leading the Spartan's to a school-record seven straight bowl games, Dantonio said that at the start it was about getting the team together and establish the program by going to bowl games every year.

Afterwards, the Spartans won a co-championship in the Big Ten, a championship, and eventually a Rose Bowl.

"The key is to how well we're able to handle success, I don't think there's any question about that," Dantonio said.

The number eight team stands higher than any other team in the league, odds-wise.

The number two ranked and defending national champion Florida State team, for instance, opened the season at a 5-2, with odds of 7-1 for a repeat now.

The number 1 ranked Mississipi State on the other hand opened the year with 100-1 odds to win the national championship, but has improved similarly to 7-1.

The Spartans will look to face the Indiana Hoosiers this coming Saturday. Afterwards, they will have five games left against: Michigan, Ohio State, Maryland, Rutgers, and finally Penn State.
