Canadian Vasek Pospisil survived a three set match against German qualifier Daniel Brands to setup a second round matchup against Britain's No. 1 Andy Murray on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old Pospisil broke the German once to easily take the first set but Brands, 27, went head-to-head in the second set to force a tie-break with the German winning the set at 7-3.

Both players would not let up on their serves in the third and deciding set as they went into another tie-break to settle the match with Pospisil edging out Brands to finish the match 6-3 6(3)-7(7) 7(7)-6(2).
Pospisil will now go up against second seeded wild card Murray who is through to the second round with a bye.
Sixth seeded Ivo Karlovic of Croatia had a thrilling three set matchup against Argentine Federico Delbonis with either player giving up on their serves for the whole duration of the match 6(1)-7(7) 7(11)-6(9) 7(7)-6(2).
The hard-hitting Karlovic will face Jurgen Melzer of Austria who defeated lucky loser Norbert Gombos of Slovakia.
While Karlovic escaped elimination, seventh seeded Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and eighth seeded Dominic Thiem weren't as fortunate.
Garcia-Lopez, 31, couldn't keep up with the 24-year-old Jan-Lennard Struff as the German broke the Spaniard once in two sets to advance to the second round 6-3 6-4.
Austrian Thiem on the other hand dropped the first set but recovered in the second set against Robin Hasse of the Netherlands, however, he stumbled again in the deciding set that the Dutchman took advantage of.
The final score was 6-3 3-6 6-3 in favor of Hass. He will now face Benjamin Becker of Germany who came back from a set down to win his first round match against Romanian qualifier Victor Hanescu 4-6 6-1 6-3.
Top seeded wild card David Ferrer will see action Thursday as well as Murray who are both competing to qualify for the eight-man short list of the year-ending ATP World Tour Finals in London.
