The province of Yunnan, which is found in Southwest China, had been the latest victim of a violent bout occurring between two fuming camps on Tuesday. Preliminary findings regarding the incident revealed that the construction workers had been tasked to build a trade and logistics center, but the local residents had been allegedly opposed to the project, as reported by the local media.
The village is located in Jinning County, which is found in Kungming, the provincial capital. The announcement had been made during a press briefing held by the officials of Jinning County.
In an interview with China National Radio, one of the villagers disclosed that the said project had been announced in 2011. However, the developer allegedly refused requests to provide proof of approval and legal paperwork regarding the construction of the project.
Adding to the frustration of the villagers is the fact that the sole road used to go in and out of the village had reportedly been sold to the same developer.
Despite these claims, however, local police claim that nothing is conclusive yet and investigation is still ongoing.
The Jinning County officials disclosed during the press briefing that the violent clash resulted in the death of six construction workers for the aforementioned logistics center and two were local Fuyou village residents.
Apart from those who passed away due to the aggressive physical conflict, 18 people were injured, in which 10 had been pronounced to be under critical condition. These people had been hospitalized since the occurrence of the violent incident.
To date, local investigating officers are endeavoring to determine the actual cause of the violent clash between these two groups. Harsh punishment will be reportedly waiting for those found to be criminally liable for the tragic incident.
