Fourth seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber and sixth seeded Ivo Karlovic are the first players to have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Erste Bank Open in Austria on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old German dropped the first set but rallied the next two sets to win his opening match against Carlos Berlocq of Argentina 3-6 6-1 6-4.

Kohlschreiber converted 93 percent of his first serves and broke the Argentine twice to easily win the second set. He converted four service aces and broke Berlocq once in the deciding set to register a win.
Next up for Kohlschreiber is the winner of the clash between fellow compatriot Benjamin Becker and Robin Haase of the Netherlands who defeated eighth seeded Dominic Thiem in the opening rounds.
Haase is last year's runner-up to German Tommy Haas who could not participate this year due to a shoulder injury.
The hard-hitting Croatian was just serving well in his matchup against Austrian Jurgen Melzer, Karlovic dished out a total of 21 service aces, 11 in the first set and 10 in the second to take out Melzer 6-4 7(7)-6(1).
Melzer won the tournament twice in 2009 against Marin Cilic and 2010 against fellow Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer.
Karlovic, 35, will face the winner of the match between top seeded wild card David Ferrer and Tobias Kamke of Germany.
In other matches, fifth seeded Lukas Rosol finally broke his six-match losing streak on the ATP World Tour as he defeated Lukas Lacko of Slovakia in his opening match in straight sets 6-2 6-4.
The Czech did not face any break points but broke the Slovakian twice in the first set and once in the second set.
Rosol will go up against Serbian qualifier Viktor Troicki in the second round.
Ferrer and second seed Andy Murray will both see action Thursday in their opening matchups.
Both players are wild card entries who participated in the tournament in light of their attempts to accumulate valuable points in their pursuit to land a spot at the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals in London.
