U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic won a three set match against wild card entry Evgeny Donskoy at the Kremlin Cup while third seeded Sabine Lisicki loses her opening match at the Luxembourg Open on Wednesday.
The second seeded Cilic survived a three set scare from the 24-year-old Russian as he lost the second set to go to a deciding set where he was broken once by Donskoy but was able to break back twice to win the match 6-3 3-6 6-3.

The Croatian will next face the winner of the matchup between sixth seeded Tommy Robredo of Spain and Serbian Filip Krajinovic.
Cilic is currently at the sixth position in the year-ending ATP World Tour Finals to be held in London this November. By virtue of winning the recent Grand Slam tournament, he has been given a slot in the eight-man short list.
It means that Canadian star Milos Raonic, who is top seed in the tournament and currently eighth place in the list, should perform well if not win the event to gain some valuable points in the race to London.
Raonic, 23, will be playing in his opening match against Lithuanian qualifier Ricardas Bernakis on Thursday.
Meantime, in Luxembourg, Hong Kong Open champion Lisicki of Germany was quite unfortunate in her second round matchup against qualifier Denisa Allertova of the Czech Republic as she double faulted six times and was broken also six times by Allertova.
Allertova finished the match in an hour and 14 minutes with a final score of 7-5 6-2.
The 2009 runner-up Lisicki was not the only seeded player that went down on Wednesday as top seeded German Andrea Petkovic, second seeded Alize Cornet of France, sixth seeded Italian Roberta Vinci, seventh seeded Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium and two-time finalist Romanian Monica Niculescu also fell short of their quest.
