The Oklahoma newspaper publisher's son reportedly admitted to murdering his own parents and sister to gain access to the family's wealth and acquire his inheritance Wednesday, stated the authorities assigned to the case.

Alan Hruby had been charged with three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the slayings of his father John Hruby, 50, mother Katherine Hruby, 48, and sister Katherine Hruby, 17.

"The reason we were given for the murders was that he was having financial difficulties," said District Attorney Jason Hicks during the press briefing. "He felt if he murdered (his family) he would be the only heir to the estate."

In accordance with the confession of the 19-year-old, he reportedly killed his family on Thursday night. Their bodies were then discovered by a housekeeper who went to work on Monday morning.

Following the murder, the University of Oklahoma student decided to go out with friends throughout the weekend in Dallas to watch a college football game. He then stayed at the Ritz Carlton, reported the Associated Press.

With respect to the murder weapon, he confessed to stealing a pistol of his father to fatally shoot his family members. He then got rid of the firearm, as well as the disc from the home's security system. These acts all pointed out to his aim of not getting caught.

Court records show that Hruby had been financially cut off due to an "abundance of spending", which he now claims to be the motive for the murders. Hicks disclosed Hruby's claim of an unsettled debt of $3,000 to a loan shark.

A report from Tulsa World disclosed that Hruby had also been charged of knowingly concealing a stolen property. He is currently detained without an option for bail.

Prior to the murders, Hruby had been arrested for violations of his probation terms due to credit card issues. A report from The Oklahoman revealed that Hruby had been convicted of a felony in January after having been reported for spending roughly $5,000 on a stolen credit card. It was his father who reported his wrongdoings to the police.

John Hruby had been the publisher of The Marlow Review, which is a weekly newspaper. His wife worked in the same company.

To date, authorities are still awaiting the results of the autopsies.
