Due to dismal TV ratings, workforce-tightening and cost-cutting, several CNN shows have been cut from the network's lineup and 300 people have been laid off.

The Ted Turner-owned network has recently cut positions and shows from its CNN and HLN divisions, including "Crossfire", "Sanjay Gupta M.D.", "CNN Money" with Christine Romans, "Unguarded" with Rachel Nichols and Jane Velez-Mitchell's nightly show which was on air for six years.

Nichols will continue on as a sports anchor on CNN, while "Crossfire" Hosts Newt Gingrich, Van Jones, S.E. Cupp and Stephanie Cutter will stay on as political commentators.

"Crossfire" staff members, however, have been encouraged to seek employment elsewhere.

300 positions, or 8 percent of CNN's workforce, will be cut from the network including Chritiane Amanpour's New-York based staff and, Jane Velez-Mitchell herself. The said cuts, which will be happening today and tomorrow, will affect employees in Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. Around half of the said employees accepted a voluntary buyout, while the other half were laid off.

Turner is also reportedly cutting the whole Entertainment division, including its top entertainment producers. The said division is tasked with covering awards shows and red carpet events.

Over the several weeks, 10 percent of CNN's workforce is expected to be cut. The percentage approximates to 1,475 people. According to the company, the job cuts "will come at all levels from across the company's news, entertainment, kids, young adult and sports networks and businesses, as well as corporate functions, in 18 Turner locations around the world."

Aside from CNN, Turner also operates and owns TNT and TBS.

Last August, CNN President Jeff Zucker sent out a warning that jobs will be cut in the coming months and, those who will remain in the company have to "do less and have to do it with less."
