One of the sculptures displayed in an exhibit in Shanghai has been igniting conflicting opinions on its appearance as it has been said to point at Mo Yan, the famous Nobel Prize laureate, as its inspiration, reported China News Service.

The sculpture exhibition is currently held in Wusa Square located in Shanghai. In viewing the entirety of the affair, it can be seen that the sculpture of Mo Yan is placed in the center.

The two conflicting opinions prevalent in this particular debate are the exhibit's visitors claiming that the sculpture is "cute" while others are insisting that the work of art only attained "uglifying" the Chinese novelist.

Earlier comments directed at the Mo Yan inspired sculpture described it to resemble a "brown potato slightly giving out a smell of earth from a distance".

In providing a possible interpretation of the sculptor's aesthetic design of the work of art, previous reporters claimed that the sculpture made it appear as if "Mo Yan bulges his cheeks and shut his mouth tight. He seems (to be) holding back the words, which spring to his lips."

One of the internet users posted on Sina Weibo that the highly debated work of art is "cute". The netizen was not alone on this opinion as several other users agreed on the description.

However, not everyone is pleased with the physical appearance of the sculpture. Majority of the internet users have been expressing their dislike of the work of art. "It looks like a potato, as well as a pig's head. It's uglifying China's first Nobel Prize laureate, Mo Yan," the internet user posted.

Guan Moye is widely known for his pen name Mo Yan. He has been described in TIME magazine as "one of the most famous, oft-banned, and widely pirated of all Chinese writers". He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012.
