Huawei Sales on Pace to Fall Short by $1.8 Billion

Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei is on pace to fall $1.8 billion short of its own 2014 revenue forecasts, based on the first-half sales estimates of CEO Guo Ping.
Guo told BBC News the company's revenues have increased 19% to $20 billion for the first half of 2014. He added that he believes the company can keep on that pace despite being denied access to U.S. market because of a ban by the American government.

However, that pace would put the company's annual revenues some $1.8 billion short of its own forecasts.
Earlier this year, Huawei forecast a 10 percent rise in 2014 revenue after reporting record earnings on rising demand from wireless carriers for equipment. That's based on 2013 revenue of $38 billion, which would bring 2014 expectations to approximately $41.8 billion.
That means the Shenzhen-based company's $20 billion first half is behind schedule, putting it on a pace to hit $40 billion, or a 5 percent increase from 2013 - half what the company projected.
Perhaps ironically, this revelation came as Guo insisted that Huawei could do without the world's largest market.
"People around the world can enjoy Huawei's products and services," Guo told the BBC. "If one country can't, I feel it may be a bit unfair for their consumers. But for Huawei, it's not very important."
The U.S. has banned Huawei from bidding for government contracts because of concerns it could be a potential security threat. Huawei's founder, Ren Zhengfei, served in the Chinese army before he founded the company in 1987.
However, Guo's insistence that Huawei doesn't need the U.S. could be just bravado. After all, he does temper his statement by saying that the company would jump at the opportunity to enter the U.S. market.
"If the United States needs our products someday, we are more than happy to have the chance to serve them," he said. "If they're not ready, we can wait."
Huawei is run by three CEOs who rotate serving the position for six months at a time. Guo is the current CEO.
