New information about the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare describes some new changes coming to COD gameplay including a new Exoskeleton Ability.
The new Exo ability, now confirmed as "Exo Mute", has replaced the Dead Silence feature that was implemented in previous COD games.

Dead Silence was a perk in which users were able to run around without making any noise detectable to their enemies during all times of the match. This would essentially allow the user to sneak up behind other players very easily.
Dead Silence was pretty much a must-have in most competitive matches and has been used by Sledgehammer Games for quite some time now. However this time around, Sledgehammer felt it took away from the integrity of the game and didn't want to use the feature as a perk.
Their solution was to implement the "Exo Mute" as an exoskeleton ability, rather than a perk.
Exo Mute is basically the Dead Silence perk except instead of the users movements being silent to enemies at all times, the user will have a time limit of just 20 seconds to use the ability. Users also only receive the ability once every life.
This levels the playing field and opens up more strategic opportunities for users in the game. For example, users will be able to turn on the Exo Mute ability for 10 seconds while running into a building to kill an enemy undetected, turn off the ability, and then still have ten more seconds to use the Exo Mute in another area of the match.
Sledgehammer is basically still forcing competitive players to choose this Exo Mute exoskeleton ability, but it's much more open and tactical as opposed to the previous Dead Silence perk.
