Music Tracks from SoundCloud and iTunes Come to Twitter

The Twitter world will soon be filled with music.

Twitter will introduce a new audio feature that lets users click on tracks and  listen to it while they keep on scrolling tweets without interruption.

The microblogging social networking service is partnering with Apple's iTunes and SoundCloud.

With iTunes, users can listen to a specific track. They can then buy the track directly from iTunes stores. Twitter won't get a share on the music purchase, according to a source from the company.

Instead of sending users to the main website of the streaming site or a separate app, songs, podcasts and the like can now play below the tweet in a virtual card. It could help draw a new set of users and keep them on for longer periods of time.

Twitter and Apple's partnership could also help musicians promote their new albums. It also provides new ways for people to search for new songs on iTunes.

Currently, only one track (Something from Nothing) from the new upcoming album of Foo Fighters is working from the iTunes library.

Twitter lets SoundCloud select the content that will be shared directly in users' feed on Apple and Android devices.

Its partnership with SoundCloud came nearly a half-year after Twitter considered buying the music streaming service.

Twitter's new audio card will allow users to tap the track they want to listen to and then swipe to "dock" it in the corner where continues to play as users continue to browse Tweets.

The company is testing the audio card with a selected group of SoundCloud creators like musicians Coldplay and David Guetta and some podcasts such as Planet Money and This American Life.

Other audio streaming platforms will be added to the mix soon, but Twitter didn't mention any future partnerships.
