The new iMac, which has a super-thin 5mm edge and seamless design, uses "highly efficient LEDs and organic passivation technology".
Despite the higher resolution and new graphics, the Retina 5K display is 30 percent more energy-efficient compared to previous iMac versions.
Phil Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, described the display "an incredible feat of engineering."
The price of this first ever iMac all-in-one display starts at US$2,499 while the non-Retina 27-inch iMac costs U$1,799. The 21.5-inch iMac is available for US$1,099.
Apple's all-in-one desktop is powered by a quad-core 3.5GHz Intel Core i5 processor that can be upgraded to a 4GHz Core i7 chip.
The all-in-one display other features includes AMD Radeon R9 M290X GPU, which offers 40 percent faster performance, 8GB of RAM, 1TB fusion drive and Thunderbolt 2 ports for extra-fast file transfers.
