Oscar and Tony award winner Al Pacino is set to return to Broadway in the 2015 to star in the world premiere of David Mamet's new play "China Doll". Performances will begin in October.

Producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Steve Traxler made the said announcement on Thursday.

Mamet specifically wrote "China Doll" for the 74-year old actor.

In a statement released to the press, Pacino shared, " For me over the years the relationship and the collaboration with David Mamet has been one of the richest and most rewarding."

Pacino continued his statement by sharing that he has done four projects with Mamet, so upon Mamet's prompting that they create a new character together, he simply couldn't pass the opportunity up. He said when Mamet told him about "China Doll", he was simply blown away and considers it to be "one of the most daunting and challenging roles I've been given to explore onstage."

Pacino's last appearance on Broadway was in 2013, starring in another Mamet production, "Glengarry Glen Ross," which won a Pulitzer Prize.

Mamet shared a vague, yet cryptic description of the play, sharing that the story will revolve around Mickey Ross, a semi-retired billionaire, who decides to buy a plane for his much-younger fiancé as a wedding present.

"He's in the process of leaving his office, and is giving last minute instructions to his young assistant. He takes one last call ..." Mamet added, without giving away any other details about the plot.

Pacino won Best Actor for his role in "Scent of a Woman" and Tonys for his performances in "The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel" and "Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?"

Aside from the performances mentioned, Pacino's Broadway credits also include "The Merchant Of Venice", "Chinese Coffee", "Salome", and "Hughie".

The actor's current movie, "The Humbling", is already being seen as a likely Oscar contender.
