Michael Jordan, one of the greatest players that played in the NBA and current owner of the Charlotte Hornets, is surprised at the organization trying to shorten the length of the regular season.

Jordan was surprised when two of the league's top players suggested reducing the number of games played during the season, as 82 was too many.

The Cleveland Cavaliers' returning superstar, Lebron James, had commented that teams could play 50-minute games if push came to shove. However, he felt that 82 games was just too many to play.

The Dallas Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki echoed James' statements in a way, saying that he would like to see the schedule trimmed down to the "mid-60s." He also added that the NBA didn't need 82 games to see which teams would make it into the playoffs.

Jordan reacted to the two superstars' comments in an interview with ESPN.com. He said that, while he loved both of these players, as an owner who played, he loved playing the game.

"If I wasn't playing 82 games, I still would've been playing somewhere else because that's the love for the game I had. As a player, I never thought 82 games was an issue," Jordan said.

Jordan is open-minded about what the players want, stating that he would feel alright with owners and players sitting down to talk things over.

However, he puts forward the question, "Are they ready to give up money to play fewer games? That's the question, because you can't make the same amount of money playing fewer games."

The NBA has started exploring possible avenues of change, as they will try to shorten game times from 48 minutes to 44. It will be enacted in the pre-season game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics.
