A 52-year-old man from Central Florida shot his three children, two of whom died, before he shot and killed himself after an argument with his wife.
The incident happened at about 5:10 a.m. Friday in the Spruce Creek Farms subdivision off Tomoka Farms Road in Port Orange. The man, identified as David Mohney, reportedly shot his children David Jr., Savanna, and Lauren. Eleven-year-old David Jr. died right away after the shooting; 14-year-old Savanna and her father were pronounced dead minutes after being taken to a hospital in Daytona Beach.

Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson said Mohney’s 9-year-old daughter Lauren has incurred serious injuries and is in critical condition. Lauren was immediately rushed to a hospital in Orlando after the incident occurred.
Sheriff Johnson said during a news conference outside the Mohney’s residence just south of Daytona Beach that the incident was a cowardly event. Johnson said if Mohney wanted to commit suicide he should have done it alone and should not have shot his children.
Mohney’s wife, Cynthia, was questioned by investigators after the shooting happened on Friday morning. The 48-year-old woman said she ran to her neighbor’s house in Spruce Creek Farms subdivision seeking help after her argument with her husband. She also said her husband had threatened her with a gun.
Sheriff’s spokesperson Gary Davidson said Cynthia Mohney did not suffer any injuries from the incident.
The Sheriff’s office got a call at 5:11 a.m. about the incident between the man and his wife Shortly after, the sound of gunfire was heard from inside the Mohney residence. The officials said they arrived in Mohney’s house and saw him dead in the kitchen with a handgun beside his body.
The two girls were found at an upstairs bedrom, and David Jr. was found in another bedroom downstairs.
