The Falcon brigade is a special unit carved out of the unit that was created in 1982 whose main task was to respond to hijacking.
The new brigade is tasked to "forcefully act against terrorism" and safeguard Chinese national security as well as maintain stability and law & order.
Xi, chairperson of the Central Military Commission, inspected the new unit and witnessed a demonstration of the elite force's training where they simulated a hijacking scenario.
The elite unit has been in operation for many years but it was only on February 20, when Xi gave the new brigade its name as the Falcon Commando.
The President also called the unit China's first responders to any terrorist activities, calling on its members to remain alert, and pursue more training to achieve its stature as an anti-terrorism unit on par or even better than its global counterparts.
He reminded the Falcon force to protect the general public and continue supporting the Communist Party of China.
On the day the anti-terror unit got its name and flag, the CPAPF released a promotional video showing an assortment of skills and training the Falcon force undergoes to remain on top.
The promotional video is going viral on China's social networking sites and has received positive reaction.
The training video also shows the extent of support Beijing has given to the unit with an array of equipment, gear and vehicles at the disposal of Falcon force.
