The Bulgarian star gained 45 points in the ATP World Tour Finals tally sheet but is still far behind the eight-man short list with Milos Raonic 255 points ahead of him in eighth place.
Dimitrov, 23, will go up against Australian Bernard Tomic who had a shaky start in his match against seventh seeded Fernando Verdasco of Spain.
The 21-year-old Tomic couldn't find his rhythm in the first set as he shamefully succumbs to a "bagel" but redeemed himself as he broke Verdasco late in the second set to level the match.
Both players were all out in the third set as extend the decider to a tie-break which Tomic eventually edging out the Spaniard 0-6 6-4 7(8)-6(6) which lasted just over two hours.
"I'm very happy with myself," Tomic said. "It was a very tough match. I had to turn it around in the second set, so it was very difficult for me."
World No. 7 Berdych had an easier time against Romanian qualifier Marius Copil in their 66 minute matchup.
The 2012 champion broke Copil twice in both sets to win 6-2 6-2 and advance to the semis against German qualifier Matthias Bachinger who Berdych has not played before.
"Tomorrow will be another opponent I will meet for the first time on the court, so just need to get back to those rhythms when I'm facing a guy for a first time," said Berdych. "Mainly focus on myself, my game and try to keep going and bring another win."
Berdych is currently in seventh place in the race to London. Since he is top seed in the tournament, Berdych mush reach the finals in order to gain points.
