News reports have revealed that during the 4minute's performance, some 25 fans climbed up on top of a ventilation system in order to get a better view of the performance when one of the vent windows collapsed, causing them to fall down from a height of around 10 meters.
At 5 p.m. on Friday, the fans fell into the elevated ventilation system, leaving two dead on the spot and over 10 people critically injured. It was later revealed that there were 16 fatalities.
Initial investigation states that the vent grate might have collapsed due to the weight applied on it when these fans fell climbed up. Such structures are said to be unsound to support such pressure.
South Korean authorities are yet to release an official statement about the investigations that are underway with regard to the accident.
On the other hand, Cube Entertainment, the company that manages the 4-member girl group that was performing during the accident, has released an official statement, expressing their grief over what has happened.
According to the statement, the members of the group as well as the staff members only learned of the accident on their way back to Seoul, adding, "We hope no more people are hurt because of this incident."
