Ryder is said to have been diagnosed two months ago. She has been the longtime publicist of many actresses in Hollywood.

Witherspoon was interviewed about it and said: "It was devastating. We just cried and cried and then said, 'What are we going to do to get busy to change things?'"
As for Zellwegger, she said: "I didn't know there's no cure for it and no medications to temper it for an extended period of time. There are no real treatment options. Nothing."
Zellwegger was actually with Ryder when the doctor announced that she had ALS. Zellwegger noted that it might have been a shock but Ryder is handling it with grace and she faces everything in good humor.
Ryder has also walked with them today and is also reportedly a breast cancer survivor. Insiders said that she did not look like she was sick at all but once she talked, people will be able to hear her saying words slowly and slurred.
Ryder was also asked about her situation and she said that she wants to create awareness for the disease. She added that she might have been down for a second there but she noted that no one can fight when down, so she adjusted to her situation as she cannot give up and she wants to fight the disease.
During the walk, everyone wore shirts with the words "Team Nanci". Most of her employees from her firm called BWR were present as well as other companies who are in competition with her.
After the walk, Ryder said that she is overwhelmed and that she feels so loved. She added that she thinks people tend to not appreciate those kinds of things but now, she really does appreciate everything.
