The detained suspect in the disappearance of the University of Virginia (UVa) student Hannah Graham has been charged on Monday with a 2005 rape case that remained unsolved.
Jesse Leroy Matthew, Jr. has been indicted with the rape charges that dated back in 2005, which happened in Fairfax, Virginia, confirms Fairfax County Commonwealth Attorney Ray Morrogh while speaking at a press conference.

Morrogh noted that Matthew has been charged with attempted capital murder and sexual penetration with an object in the said case in Fairfax. The victim, who remains to be unidentified, has helped the police as she created a sketch of her alleged attacker.
Authorities have also announced that the 2005 case is linked to the 2009 case involving that of a Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington. Findings have been presented and it showed that there is a forensic link between the murder of Harrington and the abducted and sexually assaulted victim from Fairfax.
Harrington was said to have left a Metallica concert held at the John Paul Jones Arena in UVa but was then missing since then. Her body was found on Jan. 2010, ten miles away from Charlottesville and just a few meters away from where the recent remains were found on Saturday. Her family said in a statement before that the murder of Harrington was very violent as she had several bones that were broken.
Meanwhile, investigators have found remains of a body on Saturday at Albemarle County where Matthew reportedly grew up. The body is believed to belong to that of Graham who has been missing since Sept. 13. Due to the remains found, her disappearance is no longer a missing case but is being treated as a death investigation.
There has been no confirmation yet as to identity of the body as forensic tests are still ongoing. Matthew is being held in Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail and is charged with abduction with intent to defile as he was seen as the last person to have been with Graham before she disappeared.
A hearing is set on December 4 in relation to the Graham case, but no further details have been released yet about the 2005 and the 2009 cases.
