Oscar de la Renta became the guide of American Fashion after having started his career back in the 1950's when he was still living in Spain, which led to his designs being sprawled across Paris and New York. Sadly, it has been confirmed by his wife, Annette, that the designer died on Monday, October 20, due to complications from cancer.

He battled cancer intermittently for eight years, but he remained resilient, and during those eight years he was able to grow his fashion empire by 50% to $150 million in sales alone when stars like Penelope Cruz, Amy Adams, Sarah Jessica Parker started wearing his designs on the red carpet and at awards shows like the 'Oscars'.
Oscar was well known in the high society as he had dressed the 'ladies who lunch' as well as four American First Ladies. When off the runway and not in his studio the designer refuses to discuss his fashion legacy mainly because he has remained humble and would rather talk about his vegetable garden and crack jokes at his home in Kent.
But even though the designer was humble, he did not shy away from calling people out --- he once called out US First Lady Michelle Obama for wearing foreign labels and he once offered to send three-way mirrors to a certain group of editors who loved to wear mini skirts.
The man had many sides to him, he was a fashion designer, husband, father and friend to many -- he was also described as a 'Man of the World' after he was quoted saying 'Home is wherever my wife, Annette is."
Mr. De la Renta passed away at his Kent home surrounded by his family and loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Moises his son, his three sisters as well as his three stepchildren and nine step-grandchildren.
