He noted that his father was a drug dealer and that he looked up to his dad. Noting that his dad does not have the Tom Cruise or Tom Hanks, actors he looked up to, sensibility but he is a "cut from a different kind of fabric, a different sensibility, a Vietnam veteran who came home disgruntled."
He noted that he and his dad has a really complicated relationship but they have been able to have this unique father and son kind of tag team as LaBeouf relies on his dad to stir up emotions, which he was able to use greatly in his acting career.
LaBeouf added that his father gave him the value of pain. He pressed that they manipulate each other and that they are of service to each other. He also talked about his greatest and worst memories still being linked to his dad: "My greatest and my worst memories are with my father, all my major trauma and major celebration came from him. It's a negative gift. And I'm not ready to let go of it, because anger has a lot of power."
He also expressed that he wants to have a better relationship with his dad and that he loves his dad but he needs something from him that he values very much right now than that of having a father. He adds, "I financially support his whole lifestyle. I pay him to be my marionette puppeteer."
LaBeouf then moves on to talking about finding God after filming Fury and he pressed that it's not a "f--king bulls--t way". He ended his statement saying that it's been an eye-opener for him that led him to look at himself, his life and have reflective moments.
