iCalmDog Help in Soothing Anxiety of Pets

Dogs are really anxious when it comes to being left alone or traveling, as noises or sounds can affect their behavior and how they can react to the stress presented by a situation.

However, a study has come up with the product "iCalmDog", also known as "iPod for Dogs", that is set up to emit calming music specifically designed for puppies and dogs with issues related to anxiety.

The project was first presented by Julliard-trained concert pianist Lisa Spector, after attending a lecture by a psychoacoustic engineer named Joshua Leeds. Leeds is studying the effect of music on the behavior of humans.

After the said lecture, Spector noticed that piano music seems to calm the pet. So she talked to Leeds about possibly using music ito help animals with anxiety issues.

The duo then studied and researched for 11 years, conducting different studies and coming up with different samples before coming up with iCalmDog. The two also composed their own music being played on the device.

The two launched their joint product on October 14 at Purina's Better With Pets Summit held in New York City.

Leed talked about three primary elements that need to be adjusted to suit the hearing of the animals - tone, tempo and patter. The dogs can actually hear sounds at a higher frequency as compared to humans. He adds that the slower the tempo, the calmer the animals.

The most effective genre out of all the music they have tested is the classical music. However, other genres are available on the iCalmDog and they have recommended that the pet owner should vary the genres as not all animals are the same.
