Danish star Caroline Wozniacki ousted second seeded Maria Sharapova in an epic three set match that lasted more than three hours at the WTA Finals in Singapore on Tuesday.
Both Wozniacki and Sharapova started the match in form as they would not let up on their serves, sending the first set into a tie-break which the U.S. Open finalist Wozniacki eventually won 7-4.

The second set was more of the same as they pushed the set into another tie-break where French Open champion Sharapova edged out the 24-year-old Wozniacki at the very end 7-5.
It was a test of stamina in the deciding set as Sharapova, 27, seemed out of breath after more than two and a half hours of play in the first two sets. Wozniacki, known as one of the fittest players in tennis, had the upper hand in long matches.
Wozniacki showed no signs of stopping to pressure the Russian star with her returns as the New York City Marathon participant broke the fatigued Sharapova twice to end the battle 7(7)-6(4) 6(5)-7(7) 6-2 in a match that lasted three hours and 13 minutes.
Sharapova committed a total of 15 double faults and a couple of those helped Wozniacki to end the match.
The eighth seeded Wozniacki also defeated Sharapova at the fourth round of the U.S. Open also in three sets.
"I'm feeling a little tired! But it was a great match and great to make a winning start," Wozniacki said. "It's always tough to play your first match and get into rhythm on a new court."
Both players are in the White Group along with Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and Rogers Cup title holder Agnieszka Rawanska who will play next.
Serena Williams and Simona Halep both won their first round-robin matches against Ana Ivanovic and Eugenie Bouchard respectively in the Red Group and will play against each other on Wednesday followed by Bouchard and Ivanovic.
