Teen Collapses and Dies at Haunted House due to Heart Condition

A teenager with a heart condition collapsed and died Friday as she strolled through a haunted house that was set up for Halloween in the Land of Illusion Haunted Scream Park located in Middletown, Ohio.

The teenage girl, Christian Faith Benge, was suffering from a "time bomb" heart condition and visited the park as the family assembled in the area to watch her father's band perform.

Authorities said that the teenager was at the attraction when she suddenly collapsed. Her mother Jean performed CPR while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

The 16-year-old was then rushed to the Atrium Medical Center. Unfortunately, doctors could not save her. She was pronounced dead after a few minutes. The exact cause of death will be determined by an autopsy and the results of toxicology tests.

The teen only has one functioning lung and has been suffering from difficulty in breathing and also had an enlarged heart, which is called a congenital diaphragmatic hernia. It is being suspected that the teenager's pre-existing medical condition, discovered after she was born, might have caused her death.

Her family has also denied claims that she was "scared to death." Her mother explained that doctors never told her daughter to avoid stressful situations such as that of haunted houses. The mother believes her daughter's heart could have given out anywhere and anytime, and it just happened that they were at a haunted house.

Benge's family is still thankful that she was able to live far longer than her doctors' assumptions; they had said Christian Faith would not live beyond infancy.
