Seven in 10 Hong Kong Interviewees Do Not Support Occupy Central

Occupy Central protests in Hong Kong went into its 25th day on Wednesday, but the action has not received much support from Hong Kong residents.
Hong Kong Research Association published a result of a public poll on Wednesday showing that seven in ten of the interviewees do not support Occupy Central's objectives. Six in ten of the interviewees do not accept the action of protesters.

The survey was conducted through random phone interview within Hong Kong from Oct. 20 to Oct. 21, successfully interviewing 1,071 people 18 and above. The poll also compared to part of the past poll result in order to follow up the citizen's opinion change on Occupy Central.
Sxty-four percent of the interviewees totally reject the protesters' behavior.
In terms of the performance of the special zone's government and police in handling the gathering and protests, the poll revealed that most Hong Kong people were positive about the government and police performance. Sixty-four percent among the interviewees said the responses were "considerably acceptable".
When they were asked the influence of the Occupy Central on Hong Kong, 61 percent of the interviewees said Occupy Central has influenced their daily lives a lot. Fifty-one percent of the interviewees considered that Occupy Central did cause a negative impact on Hong Kong's international image. Over half of interviewees have less confidence in Hong Kong's prospect.
Hong Kong Research Association suggested that the result reflected the trend that most Hong Kong people believed Occupy Central would create worse impact on their daily lives, Hong Kong's international image and the confidence about Hong Kong's future.
In addition, more than half of interviewees agreed that the influenced individuals and business should legally claim for loss to the organizers of Occupy Central.
