Zelinger and his team rushed Haya to the nearest hospital emergency room but the injuries were too much for her frail body and died two hours after. Baby Haya was an American citizen.
Baby Haya's parents described the incident and said the car came out of nowhere and Haya's stroller flew in the air. she was found 10 meters away from her stroller.
Others who were injured in the attack include a 20-year-old woman who is being treated in the hospital. Reports said she is in a serious condition. Two were hurt while the four others were lightly wounded.
Meanwhile, the Israeli police shot the driver multiple times when the culprit tried to flee the crime scene. The Palestinian, identified as Abdel Rahman Al-Shaludi, was brought to the hospital, but was pronounced dead after a few hours.
Al-Shaludi hailed from East Jerusalem, specifically in Silwan. Reports said he already spent some time in prison for security offenses.
According to witness accounts, Al-Shaludi drove his car 14 meters on the tracks of the train station and continued to drive until he hit a pole. That was when he was caught and arrested by the police.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered police reinforcements in Jerusalem and issued a statement that the situation in Jerusalem is intolerable. Netanyahu said he will act against the violence that is rampant in the area.
Netanyahu said police forces will be deployed in neighborhoods where their are daily disturbances and that they will be placed strategically in significant numbers.
Netanyahu also said Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas responsible for the attack. Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon also expressed on Twitter that the attack was part of Palestinians' hatred for Jews.
U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement that they are urging both sides to maintain calm and to avoid doing anything that would escalate the tension. Psaki also noted that they are sending their condolences to the bereaved parents of the killed baby.
