The social network CEO participated in a 30-minute question and answer session. Zuckerberg discussed "connecting the world, Internet.org, innovation and the early days of Facebook" with college students, according to the social media guru's Facebook page.
"Tsinghua is an amazing center of learning and research, and it has been inspiring to me to be with so many talented future Chinese leaders," Zuckerberg wrote on his page.
Since 2009, the social network has been banned in China due to its ability to spread rumors, Chinese officials said.
But Zuckerberg was determined to enter the Chinese market so the Facebook CEO established partnerships with Chinese commerce groups and joined Tsinghua's board, which includes executives from Goldman Sachs, Apple, Chinese government officials, and entrepreneurs, Bloomberg reported.
According to Zuckerberg, he has always been interested in Chinese culture and learning a language is a great way to learn about a culture.
The Facebook CEO also revealed that he studies Chinese for three reasons. First, Priscilla Chan, Zuckerberg's wife is a Chinese. Second, to please his future mother-in-law and lastly, he likes challenges.
