Will Smith to Produce "Hitch" TV Series

Hitch, the 2005 motion picture that starred Will Smith and Carmen Electra, will find its way to TV. Guess who's producing it? Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett!

Fox is currently working on a half-hour comedy show adapted from the Will Smith feature film, writes Hollywood Reporter. The network is already preparing the script for the comedy.

The TV series is based on the story of a professional date doctor. Furthermore, the show is considered as a workplace comedy that tackles about dating and sexual politics.

Willi and Jada Pinkett Smith's Overbrook Entertainment joins Sony Pictures Television in executive producing the series.

Fox further reveals that the show will be filmed in single-camera. The script is being helmed by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont (Made of Honor).

Meanwhile, the movie version, starring Smith himself as the date doctor, highlighted the strong performance of Kevin James. The film was a colossal box-office, raking almost US$370 million.

Overbrook and Sony TV previously already worked in adapting Hitch on series since 2007. In 2010, the plan resurrected, albeit with another writer. The two firms offered half-hour and hour-long shows to CBS and Fox, respectively.

Hitch is Kaplan and Elfont's second team up this season. The duo are also writing and executive producing Tuned, another single-camera musical comedy aired at NBC, starring Zachary Levi and produced by Eva Longoria.

Hitch is one of the many movie titles that are being adapted into TV. The other movies that found their way on the small tube included Rush Hour, Big, Monster-In-Law, Marley & Me, Minority Report, Real Genius, Problem Child, Bachelor Party, In Good Company and The Illusionist.
