According to the drivers, their action was based on an injunction issued by the High Court this week for the protesters to clear some main roads.
When the drivers arrived at the scene and began tearing down the tents and confiscated mats and other paraphernalia, the protesters resisted and a scuffle broke out.
Despite the resistance, the drivers went on to dismantle the blockades established by the protesters with the use of sledgehammers and chainsaws.
Hundreds of police were on site to separate the protesters and the drivers in the scuffle. The drivers were accompanied by a lawyer and court bailiff..
The drivers said that based on the injunction from the High Court, they now have the the right b to clear the roads along Nathan and Argyle Roads leading to Mong Kok and resume their normal livelihood.
granted by the Joseph Kuk, a senior inspector, said the plaintiff who obtained an injunction from the High Court was already preparing for the dismantling of the barricades in Mong Kok and Nathan Road.
The injunction was granted by the High Court based on a petition by drivers' and minibus associations.
The drivers contend that if the protesters refuse to comply with the injunction, the plaintiff-drivers have the right to seek the help of the police and have the protesters arrested.
Latest reports said a man tried to light a fire at one corner in Mong Kok but was prevented by the Occupy Central protesters.
