Twitter Digits: Replace User's Passwords with own Phone Number

App users do not have to remember their passwords anymore as developers from Twitter have come up with a project called "Digits" that would only require users to log into apps with their own phone number.
Most apps need you to register with your e-mail address but Digits will make it easier for you as you can register on applications with your phone number and by selecting your home country. The system will then send a one-time passcode to you via SMS and you can already access the app instantly.

Digits is said to be part of the much talked about Twitter Fabric, a toolkit designed for app developers so they could build more profitable and better apps.
Digits do not have actually anything to do with Twitter per se as it is a standalone service that any app developer is free to use. Yes ,app developers, you read that right! It is free but it is not yet clear whether Twitter will monetize on it in the near future.
Digits was first announced during the Twitter Flight Conference specifically for mobile developers held in San Francisco today. The standalone service will be launched later today and will be available in 216 countries and in 28 languages. It can be used via iOS and Android.
Twitter also noted that this is a breakthrough since many people do not usually have their own computers and e-mail addresses, but most would have a mobile phone.
