Camera-Covered Jacket: Latest Innovation on Sartorial Surveillance

Aposematic Jacket

(Photo : Photo distributed by Shin Seung Back and Kim Yong Hun ) The Aposematic Jacket is geared with almost 50 cameras making it possible to see everything at a 360-degree angle.

With public surveillance cameras set up everywhere, authorities in London and New York are able to track crimes and understand situations related to wrongdoings.

However, what if people are attacked on streets that do not have any surveillance cameras? This is the question that a pair of South Korea-based artists is trying to answer, with their Aposematic Jacket.

The jacket is actually a blazer decorated with cameras connected to the internet that could record images and events that occur around the wearer.

The artists, Shin Seung Back and Kim Yong Hun, were able to switch a former Giorgio Armani designer Jehee Sheen blazer to the Aposematic jacket, with almost fifty cameras pointing to all possible directions. The jacket also houses a battery pack that powers the entire system.

According to the designers, the user can simply press a button that is controlled by Raspberry Pi, a system connected to the internet via a Wi-Fi connection. The cameras are then activated and serve as an eye that can see 360 degrees showing where the person is and who the attacker may be.

This latest project is said to be supported by Seoul Art Space. Critics say it shows how possible it is to have wearable technology that can be used in so many ways.

Information on how to get one of these jackets has not been released yet but we will keep you posted once we hear a word from the artists.
