Following increased U.S. flight restrictions implemented by The Department of Homeland Security, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen reportedly will commit $100 million to the Ebola fight in West Africa.

Paul Allen originally planned on only committing about $26 million to groups including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but announced in a post on Twitter that he'd decided to boost that amount to over $100 million. Allen is now the largest individual donor for the Ebola epidemic.

In addition to the very large donation, Allen has also created a website called TackleEbola.com in an effort to give people the opportunity to help the cause and donate small amounts of money to specific projects. For example, there's a project that needs financing to provide over 6,000 hand-washing stations and beds for an Ebola treatment center.

Although only seven donors combining for a total of less than $600 have given to the project, Allen feels the awareness is continuing to grow and his donation will only attract more donors.

West African countries including Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea have been vastly stricken with the Ebola virus. The World Health Organization (WHO) is now reporting the virus has caused nearly 5,000 deaths since its recent outbreak.

The publics health system is struggling in these countries and many district hospitals have been closed down. Some of Allen's donation will be used to reopen these facilities and provide victims with the necessary health care, as well as recruiting more medical professionals.

"I got a taste when I was in Kenya a while ago of what medical care was in rural Africa," Paul Allen said on the sudden interest of the Ebola epidemic. "I was in a town of about 10,000 people, and a shipping container with a rusty microscope was their medical clinic."
