China Resources Company Chairman Song Lin Fired

A top official of China Resources Holdings was dismissed on Saturday for alleged corruption, immoral conduct and violations of Party discipline.

Song Lin was kicked out from the chairmanship of the state-owned company, and also from his seat as the Communist Party's chief of the enterprise, according to state media.

Song's removal came following an investigation into his alleged misconduct as revealed by a reporter of Xinhua's Economic Information Daily.

Reporter Wang Wenzhi alleged that Song had an extramarital affair with a woman whom he helped land a key position at a bank.

After Song positioned the woman, Helen Yang, at the United Bank of Switzerland branches in Shanghai and Hong Kong, he used the woman as a conduit for bribery and money laundering activities, said Wang in his report.

Wang posted in his Weibo microblog that he had reported Song's misconduct to China's anti-graft body on Tuesday.

Song responded to Wang's accusations through his company's website saying the report was all fabricated and smacked of malicious slander.

But the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection had already begun looking into Song's alleged misconduct, leading to the announcement of his dismissal early Saturday.

This was not the first time Song was accused of misconduct by media practitioners.

Last year, another journalist accused Song and other executives of China Resources Power of overpaying purchased coal mines in Shanxi in 2010.

Journalist Li Jianjun sent the documents he uncovered about the overpriced coal mine deal to the Independent Commission Against Corruption in Hong Kong.

Song also responded to the journalist's revelations, insisting that the Shanxi coal mine deals were all lawful commercial transactions.

Observers hailed the media exposés on Chinese officials' wrongdoings, but some were also of the opinion that reports on corruptions are best brought to the attention of the country's anti-graft body, instead of publicized on microblogs and other social media.
