Kim and Lee have been competing with each other from Korea to China. Lee started his career in China earlier in 2011, when he opened a Sina Weibo account to communicate with Chinese fans. His performance as a lead character in "City Hunter" fascinated innumerable female fans in 2011 and his popularity continues to grow in China.
At the end of last year, Lee created another hit in China with the Korean Drama "The Heres" and became the first Korean star to perform at CCTV's Chinese New Year's gala in January this year. He sang a song, "Never Leave You" with Taiwanese Singer Harlem Yu, attracting lots of of attentions.
Lee's current Weibo fans have reached over 21,000,000, way more than Kim's 6,250,000.
Kim opened his Weibo account later than Lee and does not update frequently as Lee does to close fans. Recently, "You Who Came from the Stars" was released in China making Kim Soo Hyun very popular in the country.
He now starts trying very hard to enter the Chinese market. He wrote "Happy New Year" on Chinese New Year this year, making his fans very happy. He even shared photos of his birthday party on Weibo.
He is also set to meet fans and hold shows in China. He even chose Shanghai Grand State for his show. The venue can accommodate many of his fans.
Many other popular Korean stars opened Sina Weibo as well. Jang Geun-suk has more than 17,000,000 fans while Song Seung Heon, "senior Korean star", has 2,600,000 Weibo fans.
