Pat Robertson: Gay Activists Are 'Terrorists'

(Photo : Reuters) Responding to a case in Texas, evangelical Christian leader Pat Robertson branded LGBTQ activists "terrorists."
Conservative Christian leader Pat Robertson declared gay activists of terrorism in response to a series of subpoenas sent to five prominent pastors in Texas. The summons were filed by Houston Mayor Annise Parker, herself a lesbian, to enforce an same-sex marriage non-discrimination statute.

"These people are terrorists, they're radicals, and they're extremists," Robertson told "700 Club" viewers. "No Christian in his right mind would ever try to enforce somebody against their belief or else suffer jail. Now they did that during the Inquisition. It was horrible. It was a black mark on our history, but it isn't being done now. There's no Christian group I know of anywhere in the world that would force somebody to do something contrary to their deep-held religious beliefs or else face criminal penalties, but that's what the homosexuals are trying to do here in America and I think it's time pastors stand up and fight this monstrous thing."
In a case of politics making strange bedfellows, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which has filed several suits against several Christian-based right-wing movements, agreed to the extent that the pastor's civil rights were violated.
Responding to the criticism, Mayor Parker called the subpoenas "too broad" and that the city would "clarify" the documents.
Robertson made the comments after an embarrassing call-out by Anderson Cooper on the popular "Ridiculist" CNN segment, for the evangelical preacher's uninformed views on HIV/AIDS. Earlier this month, on the "700 Club," Robertson enganged a viewer heading to the east African nation of Kenya worried on the Ebola outbreak in western Africa. The 84-year-old televangelist replied that there was no need to worry about Ebola in Kenya. But he added: "You have to be careful about AIDS. The towels could have AIDS."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HIV/AIDS cannot be transmitted via cloth.
