Yogurt Looting in Zhangzhou Likened to a Desperate 'War Scenario'

A truck loaded with boxes of Yogurt turned-turtle at a highway in Zhangzhou, spilling the products over a 50-meter stretch of busy downhill road that created a traffic jam and tempted nearby residents to go into a looting spree.
The driver was unhurt but his trucking assistant sustained fractures on his ribs, Huadong Online reported on Sunday.

Police arrived to save the wounded while passers-by helped restore order on the road by asking people to move the spilled Yogurt to the roadside so that other vehicles could pass by.
The head of the Yogurt company, Mr. You, arrived at the accident scene and ordered the transfer of 4,000 pieces of yogurt to another truck, but not before the looting could be contained.
Witnesses said around 40 to 50 people began carting away the remaining spilled Yogurt in what was described as a desperate, chaotic war-like scenario.
The police reportedly tried to stop the looting but as they drove away one looter, two or three more looters came.
One man was heard inviting a reporter to get some of the spilled product and justified the looting, saying "one would be a fool not to grab."
The Yogurt looting incident was at the top of hot topics listed on Baidu, China's search engine, over the weekend.
A journalism professor at the Fujian Normal University verbalized his disgust over the looting incident saying it showed an utter lack of moral scruples, and that "Chinese-style looting" should be stopped.
Lawyer said looting is a criminal offense in China and, depending on the severity, could be tantamount to robbery which is punishable by 3-10 years of imprisonment and a fine.
