Queen Elizabeth II paid a visit to the Science Museum in London on Friday, which had her opening an exhibition with her very first Twitter post. But even Her Majesty, Queen of England couldn't escape the attack by Internet trolls.

"It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. Elizabeth R," tweeted the Queen via staff-run @BritishMonarchy. It was confirmed later on with another tweet accompanied by a hashtag (#TheQueenTweets), much to the amusement of Twitterverse.

As of writing, the post has been retweeted 37,000 times. While it has encouraged mostly positive responses, some Internet trolls took it upon themselves to take part in the momentous occasion. As is "the nature of Twitter" did say a spokesman for the Buckingham Palace.

There were a few expletives directed at the Queen but the palace dismissed any real threat at the moment.

The Queen hitting 'Send' proved to be an event in itself, having had an audience of 600 which included Baroness Lane Fox, founder of Lastminute.com, and Sir Nigel Shadbolt, chairman of the Open Data Institute, as witnesses.

Science Museum's "Information Age" exhibition celebrates more than 200 years of electronic communication and the six networks that "changed our world", namely: the telegraph, the telephone, radio and TV, satellites, computer networks and mobiles.

The permanent exhibit features cutting edge technologies (of their times, at least) such as a giant 1920s radio tuner, the BBC transmitter used in the first broadcast of the Empire Service and Sir Tim Berners-Lee's computer. Those are only three of 800 plus objects on display.
