Two major U.S. pharmacy chains, CVS and Rite Aid, have rejected Apple Pay and won't allow users of the service to pay for med products bought from them.

Leaked Rite Aid documents obtained by website, SlashGear, gave instructions to its cashiers to explain to consumers the company isn't supporting Apple Pay.

CVS followed the footsteps of Rite Aid of shutting down Apple Pay for their business. CVS' and Rite Aid's move is motivated by business considerations because they're working with a corporation that plans to launch a mobile wallet.

This may be the reason for their disallowing the NFC payment option on Apple Pay.

Both pharmaceutical companies are members of the Merchant Customer Exchange or MCX, which is a rival contactless payment platform organized by giant retails stores including Target, Walmart and Best Buy.

The MCX payment system is called "CurrentC" and uses plastic cards. Users can use it by simply showing a QR code at point-of-sale terminals in stores, and money will be pulled directly from bank accountw. Old Navy, 7-Eleven, Kmart, Sears and Dunkin' Donuts are some of the retailer members of MCX.

While these two pharmacy chains pulled their support for Apple Pay, Walgreens still continues to use Apple Pay for their products.
