Premier Li says China to Boost Clean-energy Usage

China, the biggest investor of renewable energy in the world, has strengthened its plan to construct wind and solar power plants.

The state has been aiming to drive projects that make use of electricity coming from clean sources, reported Bloomberg.

On the other hand, in a post from China's government website, Premier Li Keqiang commented that the country would begin its construction of important nuclear power plants and hydropower plants in the eastern coastal locations.

Policy makers in China have been looking for ways to improve the country's water and air supplies. The statement from the Chinese leader reiterates the pledge to make use of alternative energy sources, said a report from Bloomberg.

China, the biggest carbon emitting country in the world, has been planning to stabilize the growth of energy projects through clean sources.

This was in conformity with Li's statement last month where he committed to the war against smog. Li also stated in his speech that coal-fired furnaces would shut down as part of the measure.

Last year, the quality of air in Beijing has failed to meet the standards imposed by the government. The air quality failed by 52 percent, according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection in a statement issued last March.

In a post on the World Nuclear Association website, there are 20 nuclear reactors operating in mainland China.

Currently, there are 28 more being constructed and more are getting ready to be built. This would increase the capacity by more than threefold in 2020.

On the other hand, the Chinese authorities have reopened nuclear power plant construction approvals in October 2012 after being suspended in 2011 following the nuclear power plant disaster in Fukushima.

In a statement, Li said that the country would start construction ultra-high voltage and regular grids.

The new grids would be responsible for powering the west to the east coast of the country. Aside from promoting clean energy, China also looks to promoting the use of clean-energy vehicles.
