Boeing said it has taken an order from Shandong but did not disclose the number of planes ordered, according to a BBC report from BBC.
However, the order is still pending regulatory approval from the Chinese government.
In a statement, Boeing said it is pleased with the interest that Shandong Airlines has displayed in its 737 airplanes. Boeing also disclosed that they wanted to continue their working ties with the Chinese government.
The competition among aircraft manufacturers in China has been fueled with the number of purchases made on fuel-efficient planes.
In the next 20 years, the industry is predicted to make US$20 trillion worth of revenue for planes with a seating capacity of 100-200 narrow body or single aisle aircrafts.
Currently, the industry is dominated by Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.
If the deal is approved by China's regulating body, this would give Boeing a big win as it is facing tough competition with Airbus and Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac).
Comac has also displayed interest in the 100-200 seat plane industry through its C919 planes.
Comac has already taken in 400 orders for its C919 planes which are mostly placed by Chinese aircraft companies. Analysts said that Comac is likely to get more orders especially from local carriers.
On the other hand, Air China said its first quarter profits would be lower by 65 percent following the decrease in Yuan's value. In the first quarter of 2013, the company reported a net profit valued CNY249 million, reported BBC.
