Hong Kong actress Kathy Chow says that she was not happy about being type-cast by TVB during the earlier stage of her career as an actress, claiming that it was at odds to how she was like in real life.
TVB has often given Chow elegant and good-girl roles on her earlier days as an actress. However, the actress stated that she's never had a breakthrough role for any of them and was unhappy about it.

According to media reports, the 47-year old actress ended her contract with TVB due to this reason, saying that she was not like that when she was younger and that the roles she has portrayed do not coincide with her personality at all.
Chow says, "As a newcomer, I cannot object and I would do my best in whatever job the company offered me."
She also said, "When I was young, I had short hair. I often got into fights outside the house. One time, my mother received a complaint. 'Your daughter hit my son until he got a nosebleed!"
As a teenager, Chow shared that she was rather tomboyish and that her father was the one who asked her to participate in the Miss Hong Kong pageant. The actress stated that her father told her that 'girls are at the height of their beauty at the age of 18', however, the actress thought that it was mainly a decision her father made in order to make her believe more ladylike.
Eventually, she felt as if she is being type-cast and chose to end her contract with the company and leave. After that, she has been concentrating on her career in Beijing and has filmed different movies and dramas in Taiwan as well as in Japan.
Chow also added that she wanted to be free to do what she wanted. The actress stated that she wanted to find other opportunities where she could challenge herself.
