Keanu Reeves' comeback noir thriller "John Wick" placed second at the box office this week with only $14.2 million in ticket sales while rival horror film "Ouija" landed on top spot with $20 million.

The sales were based on studio estimates compiled by box office tracking service Rentrak.
"Ouija" defeated Keanu Reeves' film especially as its production cost only incurred less than $5 million by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes and micro-budget horror king Jason Blum, all in conjunction with Hasbro, reports the Daily Mail.
The reason behind "Ouija's" success may include a lot of factors, but mostly it beat Keanu Reeves' film since it's Halloween, making the timing just right for people who want a scare.
"On top of that was the brand name Ouija. There is a real horror mystique around that name. There was great marketing around that," said Paul Dergarabedian, analyst for Rentrak.
Despite Keanu Reeves getting defeated by "Ouija" at the box office, his film did receive positive reviews.
In the film "John Wick", Keanu Reeves plays a retired assassin who is forced to go back to his former profession. The former hitman came out from his retirement after his dog was killed by a Russian thug.
The Matrix star's comeback film was directed by former stunt men David Leitch and Chad Sthelski. The actor complimented their style saying their vision was unique for the genre.
"The shooting style: the colors, the way they shoot the action. They're doing wide shots, not a lot of cuts," said Keanu Reeves. "They're wanting the action to unfold in front of you as opposed to changing perspectives."
The film still reportedly raked in a $2.5 million total on 347 IMAX screens despite finishing second in the box office.
"More than box office results, Keanu Reeves is being talked about in his return," according to Dergarabedian. "And that's money in the bank."
On Sunday, Keanu Reeves strolled through New York looking like his film landed on the top spot. The 50-year-old looked happy and cool donning a hip ensemble.
Wearing a grey T-shirt underneath a black, buttoned blazer, paired with old, blue jeans, the actor looked every bit as young as can be.
Recently, Keanu Reeves had been spotted at a John Wick premiere in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, other films that continued making noise include "St. Vincent", which aired on 2,282 theaters. It jumped to the top 10 with $8.1 million. Bill Murray's critically acclaimed role is beginning to make its way to the national audience, according to USA Today.
"People love Bill Murray and are welcoming this return to his comedic form with open arms," said box office analyst for Hollywood.com, Phil Contrino. "St Vincent will continue to play well. And Murray will be in Oscar discussions, which doesn't hurt its prospects either."
Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Birdman", Michael Keaton's return to the big screen, made its way to 50 theaters taking in $1.4 million.
"Fury", which stars Brad Pitt, earned $13 million in its second week of release. Its total earnings are already around $46.1 million.
"Gone Girl" is at the fourth of the list with $11.1 million in its fourth week, and $124 million in total.
"Book of Life," the only animation film so far, took in $9.8 million, finishing fifth on its second week. Total sales are just below $30 million.
Final numbers are reportedly expected Monday.
