Dell's Alienware 13 Laptop Gets Graphics Amplifier for Optimum Gaming Experience

Dell's Alienware portable gaming laptop ‎will get a desktop upgrade for the coming holiday season.

Alienware 13 laptop is a powerful gaming system in its own right, but Dell is offering an extra graphics boost by integrating a Graphics Amplifier.

It's basically a PCI Express with a four-port USB 3.0 hub with an integrated 460 watt power supply.

Users can just plug it in any desktop video card, and then connect the box to the Alienware 13 laptop to experience an optimum gaming performance with higher frame rates and the option to run one or more external monitors.

The device registers as the laptop's primary graphics card and bypasses the onboard GPU. Its setup simply reboots the system to switch over to the onboard graphics hardware.

The device's small enclosure measures 6.8 x 7.3 x 16.1 inches and supports single full-length, dual-wide, PCI-Express x16 graphics card.

Users can swap-out cards and upgrade as needed. Even if users combine it with other desktop hardware, it will operate in full and create a remarkable desktop experience.

The Graphics Amplifier without GPU installed costs US$299 and will be available via Dell's website.

Meanwhile, Alienware 13 has an Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M GPU with Intel Core i5 or i7 processors. It has an impressive Killer DoubleShot networking hardware providing 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet.

It'll be available before the year ends but the price hasn't been revealed.
