Google Says Lollipop Security Will be Set Automatically

Adrian Ludwig, the head of Google's Android mobile software security team, said that Android 5.0 Lollipop will have a number of security upgrades that will help keep the owner's data safer, even as Android devices widen their reach from tablets and phones, to cars and watches.
With Android 5.0, Google is creating a paradigm shift in how Android security functions. With the latest version of the operating system, the company said that security settings will be set automatically.

"I don't think it's realistic that the average person should care about security," Ludwig said in a conference call with reporters.
The enhanced security of the new Android update signifies a change among the best smartphone manufacturers from just providing simple security features to making them mandatory, and easier to use at the same time. With over 80 percent of the world's smartphones running on Android, it's no longer viable to program tech exclusively for the tech-savvy population, according to CNET's Seth Rosenblatt.
Google is handling the situation similar to what Apple did in their digital security detail, which was to automatically enable vital security features so consumers need not know.
"When it comes to security, we're not designing a single device, or millions of similar devices," Ludwig said of Google's approach. "We're building a service which helps users be secure despite the myriad different ways that Android might come into play."
Security theft is another reason why Google is tightening its reins on security features of devices running on Android. The top security problem smartphone users have, as of the moment, are data theft and loss, according to Ludwig.
Google has enabled three simple settings to ensure the security of the user's smartphone.
First is the lock screen, which keeps unauthorized people from accessing private data. The next one is device encryption, which aims to keep all but the most seasoned hackers from accessing the device.
The third and final measure Google has enabled is the device manager, which can aid the user find their device or completely wipe the data on a stolen device.
