Ningbo International Open: Saisai Zheng Wins Opener; Yingying Duan Upsets Luksika Kumkhum

Second seeded Saisai Zheng won her opening match against Australian qualifier Arina Rodionova while fellow compatriot Yingying Duan upset top seeded Luksika Kumkhum at the Ningbo International Open in China on Tuesday.
After finishing second at the Rising Stars Invitational at the WTA Finals in Singapore last week, Zheng took the outdoor hard courts of the Ningbo Tennis Center and dominated Rodionova in two straight sets 6-2 6-1.

The 20-year-old Zheng broke the Australian twice in both sets to win the match in an hour and four minutes.
Zheng will next face the winner of the matchup between 2012 tournament champion Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei and Ling Zhang of Hong Kong.
Duan of Tianjin shocked Thailand's Kumkhum in their opening round matchup 6-2 6-2.
Both players exchanged breaks early in the first set but Duan took advantage of Kumkhum's second serves to break the Thai two more times to finish the set.
It was more of the same in the second set as Duan delivered second service returns with authority to break Kumkhum twice and finish the match in an hour and 18 minutes.
Duan will go up against Russian Elizaveta Kulichkova in the second round who defeated Tadeja Majeric of Slovenia 6-1 6-3.
In other matches, Chinese wild card entry Zhaoxuan Zhang edged out fifth seeded Vitalia Diatchenko in the first round 6-4 3-6 7(7)-6(3) to meet Paula Kania of Poland who defeated Eri Hozumi in their opening matchup 6-2 6-2.
Chinese qualifier Yan Wang surprised fourth seeded Patricia Mayr-Achleitner of Austria in a one-sided match 6-3 6-4 that lasted an hour and 30 minutes.
Third seeded Russian Alla Kudryavtseva came back from a set down to defeat wild card entry Xinyun Han 3-6 7-5 6-1 in a match that lasted two hours and seven minutes.
Kudryavtseva will face Lin Zhu of China next who won over qualifier Chin-Wei Chan of Chinese Taipei 7-5 6-3.
