Black Widow may be one of Marvel's most popular superheroes, but she will not be getting her stand alone movie anytime soon or within the next five years.

Marvel Studios announced their full line up of films during a fan event at Disney's El Capitan Theater, wherein Marvel President Kevin Feige announced a new female character "Captain Marvel", the film will star a female version of Captain America with the comic books Carol Danvers and her alter ego "Ms. Marvel" --- the studio is hoping that this film will open the door for a new franchise on July 6, 2018.

"Captain Marvel" will be the very first stand alone movie with a female lead. Feige said that the film has been in the works as long as Dr. Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy and that Ms. Marvels adventures are very earthbound, but her powers are based on the cosmic realm.

Although without a solo film, Black Widow still plays a major role in the current Marvel franchise. Feige explains that in the new Avengers movie "Avengers: Age of Ultron" we will see more of Black Widow and we will learn more about her past and where she came from.

The reason why no Black Widow film has been announced is because this would require Marvel to produce a prequel film that would have to fill her backstory as a Russian Spy, a prequel film is something that the studio has not yet done. So, instead they decided to have the character play large roles in the forthcoming movies leading up to "The Avengers: Infinity War".

The Avengers Age of Ultron will be released in 2015
