Calling terrorism the common enemy of the people, not just in China but all over the world, Chinese President Xi Jinping vowed to improve counter-terrorism measures and launch intensified campaign against terror groups in order to safeguard national security.
During the national security and social stability group study session of the Communist Party of China Central Committee's Political Bureau, Xi said the government will launch an intensified crackdown on terrorism and secessionism until terrorists suffer the consequences of their actions.

Xi, who is also the Central Military Commission chairman, also called on the armed forces to to act forcefully against terrorism to ensure that peace and social stability will prevail in China.
He said China must make terrorists become like rats running without direction on streets, with the mob chasing the rates to beat them.
The Chinese President urged authorities to improve the country's system of countering terrorism and asked the public to also help in the fight against terrorists and secessionists, whom he said have been swollen with arrogance.
Violent terrorists, said Xi, ignore the very basic rights of every human being by trampling on humanism and justice.
"It's neither an issue of nationality nor religion. Terrorism is the common enemy of people of all nationalities," he stressed, adding that the fight must be against hostile forces within and outside of the country.
While intensifying the campaign against terrorists, Xi, named by TIME Magazine as one of the world's most influential people in 2014, said ethnic unity and common prosperity must be promoted.
The President tasked government agencies and departments to work together to ensure that terrorism will not get a foothold in China and that existing terrorist and secessionist groups in the country be immediately neutralized before they can start wreaking havoc.
