The crown princess' appearance indicates that she is gradually getting back on her feet and seems ready to take on more public duties.

The state banquet is prepared in honor of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, who is on an official visit to Japan, the Imperial Household Agency announced.

The crown princess also attended the coronation of King Willem-Alexander in April 2013. That was her first official trip outside Japan in over 10 years.

Princess Masako has largely backed out from public duties after suffering from stress-induced "adjustment disorder" in 2004.

The Imperial Household Agency revealed that she is now making steady progress from the stress-related condition, although the agency failed to state on whether her decision to attend Wednesday's banquet was directly linked to her improved health or for personal reasons.

The princess will celebrate her 50th birthday December. In a  statement, she said that she is doing her best to "making efforts to carry out her official duties as much as possible."

"I would like to continue my efforts toward my recovery while receiving help from people around me," she continued.

Before becoming a member of the Imperial Family, Princess Masako, was a career diplomat. In 1993, she married Crown Prince Naruhito and their marriage was blessed with the birth of Princess Aiko, in December 2001.

The Dutch king and queen arrived in Japan Tuesday and their state visit will end Friday.
